City Lose To Metros

Adelaide City women were unfortunate in last night’s final round of the 2017 PS4 NPL losing 2-1 to Metro United.

In a tight contest, City gained the early advantage after Romy Franceschilli slotted home the opening score on 15′. The first half remained an up and back affair with no team adding to the tally. City’s Alex Chidiac, playing her first game back from international duties with Westfield Matildas left the fiield with injury just before half time and did not make a return.

The second half provided the equaliser at 50′ for the home team and again, with a 1-1 scoreline, the match lay in the balance with efforts by both teams unable to break the deadlock. Until that is, the 85′ when Metro United was awarded a penalty which converted successfully gave them the advantage. City pressured Metros goal in the dying stage stages, coming oh so close in the process but were unable to find the equaliser.

A win or a loss would have seen the Black and White finish top of the ladder, but with very close finishing top four, City end the regular season 3rd with 45 points, one behind Metro United in 2nd and West Adelaide in 1st, both with 46 points but separated by goal difference.

The Adelaide City FC Women’s PS4 National Premier League team will be presented to the crowd at Adelaide City Park today at 2:30pm in recognition of their efforts and performance in a hard fought season, and wish them well as they prepare for the FFSA Cup Final on Friday 18 August and the League finals series.
