The win meant that City progress to the Round of 16 of the South Australian section of the tournament.

Coach Damian Mori fielded a strong team for the match, albeit with some inclusions into the starting eleven differing from recent NPL matches, and the hosts took just six minutes to find the net.

Michael Acton drove the ball into the six-yard box where star midfielder Dylan Smith tapped home from close range.

City were in total control and in the 25th minute doubled their advantage in spectacular fashion.

Young-gun Carlo Armiento collected the ball 25 yards from home, and unleashed a shot into the top left corner which beat Cobras goalkeeper Andrew Lam.

It was a big moment for Armiento, who scored his first senior goal for the club in an important fixture.

Adelaide City controlled the remainder of the half before heading into the half-time break with the two-goal advantage.

After the break, City took just three minutes to again find the net.

Mamadi Kamara fired home from close range to give his side a 3-0 lead.

A minute later Dylan Smith got onto the end of a through ball, before rounding Lam and slotting the ball home.

It was a strong showing by City, who proved to be relentless in their efforts.

They continued to press, and a fifth goal was scored in the 65th minute and it was again Armiento.

The winger’s shot from just inside the 18-yard box was deflected in by Mohamed Hassan.

It was a very good display from Mori’s men, and there was no slowing down in the final minutes.

Dylan Smith completed his hat-trick in the 89th minute, before scoring in the final minute of play by again rounding the Cobras goalkeeper before firing home.

Smith was the obvious best player on the park, ending the day with four goals to his name.

It was an all-round perfect display from the Black and Whites, who now move onto the next round of the tournament.

The 16 remaining clubs will learn their fate when the Round 2 draw takes place at Coopers Stadium at 12pm on Thursday, 30 March.

Round 2 matches are scheduled to be played on the Easter weekend of 15-16 April.
