The spirit of the ANZACS will shine through when the world game brings communities together.
Adelaide City Football Club, steeped in history and pride with over 70 years of producing world class athletes is hosting the Ghan Kilburn Soccer Club on ANZAC Day, Wednesday 25th April. It’s the first time these two clubs will play each other and this community event will be a calendar highlight.
The two clubs come together for more than just a place in the FFA Cup (SA) play-offs. The game will celebrate the multicultural cultures and communities that have been at the centre point of both clubs. At 2.45pm the Hon. Jing Lee MP will attend to present the match ball to the team captains and a minute’s silence will be observed following the last post being performed by bugle player Australian Army Musician Emily Hewitt.
President of the Ghan Kilburn Football Club, Desmond Tucker said: “We are so very happy to be welcomed so warmly by Adelaide City, they are a such an iconic club who’s values very much reflect those of our club…equality, fairness and humility and to strive for greatness”.
Tony Costa, CEO of Adelaide City Football Club was also happy to hear of the match-up on the ANZAC Day clash to be held at Oakden. “Our club was built on the hard work and dedication of many refugee migrants and still carries a strong sense of contribution to these communities – our club welcomes the Ghan Kilburn Football Club with open arms on a day that will celebrate diversity and compassion, guided by the spirit of the ANZACS”.
To add some extra multicultural flavour to the event there will be great choices in food including traditional Afghan bites from the Afghan Kebab House, wood-oven fired pizza on offer, and Afghan Cultural Dance Group performing before the official start.
