Adelaide City FC women put on a display of top quality football to defeat ladder leaders West Adelaide SC 4 – 1 at the Shores Football Centre yesterday.
Flooded in streaming Autumn sun, the engaged crowd were treated to some of the best women’s football on offer, with both teams showing fine skills and teamwork, but it was City who had the edge, the top draw passing and open play providing four goals. West Adelaide had conceded just one goal all season prior to the match.
Alex Chidiac scored in the 14th minute, with Daniela Di Bartolo following up on 25. West Adelaide hit back quickly to level through Nicole Tilley, and showed they meant business. The second half performance by City was however too good. Moving up another level, the Black and Whites put two more past the home team through Di Bartolo (58′) again, and Tiarn Powell (76) to secure the result.
Coming into the match, West Adelaide’s performances positioned them as the team to beat in this season’s Ps4 Women’s National Premier League, being undefeated, and sitting top of the table. The outcome of yesterday’s match sees the Black and Whites sitting second and close the gap to three points, with West’s 23 to City’s 20.
City will next take on Campbelltown in the not to be missed historic home double header next Saturday, 27 May at Adelaide City Park.
