West Adelaide FC vs Adelaide City FC Preview by Chloe Lau
The time has come. 21 rounds and two finals series games later, the big dance is here. This Saturday afternoon, Adelaide City will be facing off against West Adelaide in the WNPL Grand Final at Hindmarsh Stadium.
This fixture is gearing up to be an extremely exciting heavy-weights’ clash, as games between these two sides have always been neck-to-neck.
Currently, Hellas have the edge over City as they have won three out of the past five encounters this season – most recently with a narrow 1-0 victory to nab the grand final hosting rights. However, the week before, City claimed the Premier/Division 1 Cup after dominating West in a 6-1 win.
There are high stakes on the line for both teams in the grand final, especially with City aiming for the elusive treble after taking out the Premiership and Cup a few weeks ago. A victory on Saturday evening would mean a phenomenal achievement for the team to claim their third Grand Final win in a row; it would also fulfil many of the players’ goals at the start of the season to secure all three titles in the 2019 season.
For West on the other hand, a win would mean their first-ever Championship as well as a revenge for the Cup Final loss – grand rewards for a brilliant season that they have had.
Dylan Holmes, Chelsie Dawber, Tiarn Powell and Isabel Hodgson found the back of the net for City in the past meetings against West Adelaide; Dawber especially scoring a whooping four goals in the Cup Final. Meanwhile, Mina Nishitani, Anna Pritchard, Christie Hillyer and West’s best Georgia Macri got on the scoresheets too.
This will most definitely be an electric game for both fans and neutrals alike, so make sure to head on down to Hindmarsh Stadium this Saturday to support the Black & Whites! Kick-off at 4:30pm.
