Current Matilda, and Professional Footballers Australia W-League Team of the Season award winner, Alex Chidiac, has signed with Adelaide City FC for the 2017 PS4 National Premier League season.

The talented 18 year old from Windsor Gardens in Adelaide’s north east suburbs has just returned to Australia after helping the Matildas to fourth place at the 2017 Algarve Cup in Portugal. The tournament featured some of the world’s most highly ranked countries including Spain, Canada, Denmark and Brazil.

The event also marked Chidiac’s starting debut for her country’s senior national team, donning the green and gold jersey and helping to secure an impressive 3-2 win over a top flight Netherlands outfit.

“It was a great tournament to be a part of. It gave me great experience at an international level,” stated Chidiac.

City’s offensive front third lineup which includes 2017 FFSA Women’s Player of the Year Daniela Di Bartolo and former Adelaide United W-League player Tiarn Powell, will be bolstered with the new arrival.

“Chidiac is a special player, a real professional who I have had the pleasure of coaching before in the W-League and with the NTC girls program. Chidz will fit in nicely into my football philosophy, she is a ball player and likes to attack and take the game on, she will add extra depth going forward” said WNPL Coach Paul Pezos. “Her ball skills and movement will link well with the team and provide extra possibilities” he added.

“I worked with Paul a few years ago in the NTC program and with Adelaide United. I know Adelaide city have always been a very strong club with a great women’s programme and I’ve played with a few of the girls on the team before,” Chidiac added.

Chidiac played for Adelaide United in the 2016/2017 W-League season helping the Reds to 6th position and a strong end of season performance which saw the W-League outfit finish on a six game unbeaten streak, including a 10-2 whitewash of Western Sydney Wanderers.

The move to City will see Chidiac re-unite with fellow Red, and attacking player, Georgia Campagnale.

While at United, in addition to being named in the PFA W-League Team of the Season, Chidiac also collected the January nomination for NAB Young Footballer of the Year.

A Croydon Kings junior, she joined the FFSA National Training Centre squad as a youngster before moving on to selection for the Australia u17, and then u20 teams prior to representing her country at senior level.

Due to her recent national team call up, Chidiac saw a return to the familiar environment of her home state and the FFSA’s WNPL competition with Adelaide City FC under coach Paul Pezos as most beneficial for her development as a footballer. “I’m looking forward to a new challenge, the quality in SA is getting better and better so I can’t wait to see what the season brings,” she said.
