Round 11 – Salisbury Inter vs Adelaide City match report By Euan James
City defeated Salisbury Inter 0-9 in a thoroughly dominant performance at VALO Football Centre on Friday night.
The game started very evenly as both sides enjoyed possession and tried to take control of the midfield.
Claudia Jenkins returned from the United States and started in goal for City. Her leadership qualities were there for all to see as she yelled out instructions for her teammates from the beginning.
In the 26th minute, City pushed forward through Yuka Sasaki who found Tiarn Powell on the edge of the box and the resulting shot was parried out for a corner.
Matilda Mcnamara made no mistake from the corner as she convincingly headed the ball past the goalkeeper to make it 0-1.
Just four minutes later City struck again through Dylan Holmes. Her fiery shot from 30 yards sailed into the top corner after the Inter defence gave her plenty of time to unleash.
In the 37th minute, Chelsie Dawber was there to score City’s third as she got on the end of Yuka Sasaki’s cross and calmly slotted it home.
A minute before half time Dawber had a golden opportunity to double her tally but she tamely shot straight at the keeper from the penalty spot. That miss didn’t faze the team as Yuka Sasaki picked up the ball on the left wing and found the bottom corner to make it four on the stroke of half time.
The second half began the same way the first ended with City scoring again. Chelsea Dawber made it 0-5 after she found the ball on the right and put it past the Inter keeper who came off her line to challenge.
In the 56th minute, Daniela Di Bartolo entered the game and almost had an instant impact but she failed to get on the end of a ball that was flashed across the face of the goals.
Chelsea Dawber completed her hat trick in the 72nd minute after she beat her defender and rounded the keeper to make it six.
Just three minutes later she scored her fourth of the night with a ferocious shot that beat the keeper at the near post.
It didn’t stop there for Dawber as she went on to score two more goals to close out the match. Her double hat trick capped off a dominant performance and a 0-9 win for City.
City will play Metro United WFC at VALO Football Centre on Friday, May 31.
