It was smiles all round for devoted Black and White fans Dylan, Steve and John when they got their hands on the new 2016 Adelaide City jerseys. “It’s great the club is able to offer the new strip to supporters of the club” said long time supporter Steve. “I’ve been following the team for many years and I’ll be wearing the jersey to games with pride!” he added. “I’m dying to wear the pink, it looks great. I cant wait to wear it to a game. I bought a pink wig to really spice things up and add some colour!” he exclaimed.
Head Coach Damian Mori was on hand to present the kit at Top Corner Sports. “The Black and White strip holds a special importance for me, and I know for many other South Australians with this club having such a long and successful history.” said Mori.
Celebrating it’s 70th year, Adelaide City will return to traditional black and white stripes, and a striking pink away jersey inspired by Italian giants, Juventus, as it pays tribute to age old connections with the past.
Six equal black and white vertical stripes will traverse the front of the home jersey, a move away from last season’s varying width pattern and in the process return to the more traditional strip used in past national competition battle so successfully. In contrast, the vivid pink stripe across the front of the paler pink body in the away jersey is a variation on the current Juventus theme, a club Adelaide City can trace it’s very original roots to seven decades ago.
Maintaining the pink link, the home goal keeper’s jersey is a mix of thin pink stripes with patterned side panels on a solid steel blue body. The away gloveman’s outfit is a stunning green and turquoise pattern with the bold black stripe down the center.
All kits carry the 70th anniversary logo proudly displayed on the left chest. The design incorporates the traditional club logo surrounded by gold leaf and recognition of the period of celebration from 1946 – 2016. The 2016 jersey will be worn by Men, Women, Boys and Girls.
“Adelaide City has a long and successful history, one which the club is proud to promote. Our black and white kit, combined with the pink away strip will certainly accomplish on both fronts,” stated club Chairman, Alf Ianniello. His words were backed up by 1st Grade Captain Matthew Halliday; “I have played for this club all my life and to wear the black and white in it’s 70th year is something I’m very proud of. The unique club logo for 2016 is one all players across the club can be proud to wear on their chest every time we take the field.”
