Adelaide City have successfully progressed through to the 2019 Women’s Premier/Division 1 Cup Finals, after putting in a very convincing 3-0 victory over Metro United on Friday night at VALO Football Centre.

Mikayla Vidmar scored a sensational goal after coming off the bench to mark her first for the club. Daniela Di Bartolo and Nanako Sasaki were also in on the action, scoring a goal each.

City piled on the pressure on the get-go, almost scoring within the opening minutes but Di Bartolo dragged her shot wide of the goal.

The captain redeemed her missed opportunity a few minutes later, when she headed a pinpoint cross from Alicia Nikolas into the back of the net.

Chelsie Dawber nearly doubled the score margin, when she got the ball to her feet with plenty of time and space in the 18-yard box, but her shot bounced off the crossbar instead.

Goalkeeper Kendall Jenner made a crucial save off her shin against Chrissy Panagaris at the near post in the 14th minute to prevent conceding early.

Metro had another chance on goal just after the half-hour mark, when Kirsty Moore sent in a cross from the right flank to find Roxy Dodd’s head. Fortunately, her header flies just over the crossbar.

Nanako Sasaki put City up by another goal in the 35th minute, when she ran onto a well-weighted through-ball from Di Bartolo. She drew Metro’s ‘keeper Hunter Strudwick across goal, before finishing the opportunity with a clinical shot from a tight angle.

The resumption of the second half saw City continuing to press the opposition, as the match got faster and more physical. In the 66th minute, Dawber was booked with a yellow card for a strong challenge on Stella Rigon.

The relentless pressure on Metro came to fruition in the 80th minute via Vidmar’s goal – her first in City colours. She capitalised on a miscommunication between Metro’s backline, and with time and space, the right back sent a wonderful strike past the goalkeeper and into the back of the net.

City will meet against West Adelaide in the Cup Final, which will be held on Friday 23rd of August, kick-off details pending announcement. This will bound to be an exciting and entertaining final between two strong sides, with plenty at stakes to fight for both teams.
