Adelaide City 1st Grade women’s team has won the 2017 FFSA Cup by defeating a strong Adelaide University 3-2 in a hotly contested final at The Parks Football Centre on Friday night.
In what would turn out to be a very close match, Nora Peat put the Black and Whites one goal to the good with an early score in the 5th minute. University wasted no time however with the equaliser, Emily Condon responding at the six minute mark to level the scores.
University’s talented and dangerous Chilean striker Maria Jose Rojas found the back of the net at the 37 minute mark to give Uni the lead.
Chidiac continued to provide forward momentum as the first half moved on and reaped the rewards for the designated home team with a goal as the first 45 closing whistle approached.
The 3-2 scoreline would eventuate to remain for the duration of the match, although both sides had their chances to add to it, with Uni coming awfully close and striking the crossbar in the second half.
An elated Adelaide City held the Cup high in post match celebrations, having visited the Cup final stage for the last four years only to come away empty handed. Not so this year. The win was added to by Alex Chidiac who received the Player of the Match award for her strong performance, which along with the brilliant team display, was enough to land deserved silverware for the 1st grade team.
