Metro United WFC v Adelaide City FC
2019 Women’s Premier/Division 1 Cup Semi Final Preview by Chloe Lau
Audiences at VALO Football Centre this Friday night will be served up a treat, as Adelaide City face off against all-time rivals Metro United in a heavy-weights’ clash for the Premier/Division 1 Cup semi-final.
City have had the edge over Metro in their two League meetings this season, winning 4-2 back in April and most recently with a dominant 6-0 performance in Round 12.
Chelsie Dawber, Tiarn Powell, Yuka Sasaki, Daniela Di Bartolo and Georgia Campagnale have been on target for City in these two encounters – with Dawber and Di Bartolo both bagging three goals each. On the other hand, Chrissy Panagaris was the only player to find the back of the net for Metro.
Both sides had a bye and automatic qualification through to the Round of 16, where City defeated Adelaide University Premiers 2-0, and Metro headed into the next round with a close 3-2 win over Adelaide Comets Reserves.
In the quarter finals, City won 2-0 over Metro United Reserves in a solid performance, while Metro saw off Fulham United Premiers with a dominant 3-0 victory.
This will no doubt be an entertaining game for both fans and neutrals alike, as a clash between these two sides always delivers.
Winners of this match will meet the winner of the other semi-final, which will be between West Adelaide and Salisbury United, in the Cup Grand Final.
