Adelaide City would like to announce the appointment of Glenn Dods as the club’s new Football Director.
Glenn’s new role with City will see him responsible for the footballing direction and strategy of the Club, working with technical directors and coaches in both senior and junior departments as well as management of both NPL and WNPL squads.
Adelaide City President Dino D’Ottavi welcomed Glenn to the club’s football department. “Glenn is a vastly experienced and respected football person and very importantly as a former Adelaide City player, is passionate about the Black & Whites. We are thrilled to have him back at City.”
Glenn reflected on his path to this point, telling ACTV “It’s with great pleasure and excitement that I take on this role which is a culmination of a 40 year relationship with this great club.”
On the job ahead Glenn spoke of the importance of City’s relationship with it’s players and fans. “My aim is to make every player who pulls our iconic jumper, whatever the level, come to love the club as I do and becomes a life-long member of our family. Our mission to help every player become the best they can be, not only as footballer but as a person”.
Dods is thought of as a massive figure at City; he spent five years playing with the club in the NSL between 1979-1984, moving from his native New Zealand to pursue footballing opportunities across the ditch.
To this day, Dods is the only Adelaide City player who, during their time playing at the club, has represented their country at a World Cup – a feat Dods completed when he pulled on the All Whites shirt at the 1982 event in Spain.
This isn’t the first time, however, in his post-footballing career that Glenn Dods has aligned with City, with Glenn providing specialised medical advice and treatment to both senior and juniors for many years.
This partnership was formalised by the Black and Whites last year as we announced SportsMed SA – where Glenn works as senior physiotherapist – as the Club’s official Medical Partner.
SportsMed’s partnership with City provides the club with quite a lot more than day-to-day injury treatment, which assists with medical assessment and assistance for each of the club’s senior and junior players.
The company has provided many trainers across the club with certified education, allowing them to get the very best out of their players.
Dods’ new appointment is a huge coup for the club; they now have somebody in the role with a huge footballing pedigree and knowledge and is sure to be a massive boost for them in years to come.
