Dramatic Finale Brings Victory

Adelaide City FC u12 boys have today won the final of the 2016 Carnevale Cup in the most dramatic fashion with a 13-12 penalty shootout win over local rivals Metro Stars! In what is sure to go down as one of the most high tension climaxes an Adelaide City junior team has played, it wasn’t until the 30th penalty shot was taken that the winner was decided!

The match was a tight tussle – game on from the first whistle. The scores were level 1-1 at half time and again at the completion of the fxture, 2-2. The match was to be decided on penalties, both teams going goal for goal, and, on the rare occasion, miss for miss! Eventually, on the 12th goal of the shootout, Izac Carrozza stepped up to take advantage of a Metro Stars miss and sealed the result.

Having gone through the tournament undefeated, it was the fifth straight appearance by the Black and White in the final of the Carnevale Cup, with a 3-2 win ratio now established following today’s result.

The other big news at this year’s event was the first appearance of a girl’s team. In what has traditionally been an all boy competition, Adelaide City FC fielded an u13 girls team. And they didn’t just show up, they played great football to really display talent and ability, coming away with two wins from their six games. Sturdy competition for all comers and showed they can match it with the boys!
