Having been held to a 1 goal to one draw against the Blue Eagles at Marden and getting a good two goals to one away win at Frank Mitchell Park against White city, Adelaide City hosted SA Panthers at Oakden for the match of round 16.In their first encounter Adelaide City came away from the southern team’s home ground with a hard fought 3 goals to two win and would be eager to do well at home.

The home team has a dream start to the match taking the lead in the second minute with an opportunistic goal from Anthony Costa, who has been persistently worrying opposition defences this season. In the 6th minute of the match the SA Panthers conceded again this time from a superb free kick just outside the penalty box. Nicholas Bucco who is becoming renowned for his ability to score from dead ball situations expertly struck the ball into the net for his side’s second goal. Adelaide City continued to press the opposition but was unable to add to its score before the half time break.

Joel Allwright got himself onto the score sheet in the 2nd minute of the second half; having received the ball in a central position sidestepped the Panthers defenders and chipped over the oncoming goalkeeper for his side’s third score for the match. To their credit the Panthers pulled a goal back in the 9th minute of the half scoring from a corner. After this setback Adelaide City increased its pressure on the visitors and in the 25th minute Allwright latched onto the ball in his own half, slalomed past the defenders and scored his second goal of the match. Five minutes later the rout was complete and Allwright scored again for his hat trick and a resounding five goals to one win.

This was a very polished performance by Adelaide City and is an encouraging sign for the remainder of the season.
