Fulham United and Adelaide City will meet each other in the 2016 Women’s Premier and State League Cup Final to be held on Friday 2 September 2016 at Elite Systems Football Centre following the Semi-Final games played on Monday 25 July 2016.
Fulham United won through to the final following a comfortable 4-2 win over Adelaide University whilst Adelaide City claimed a 2-0 win over 2015 Cup Winners Metro United. Fulham United have not featured in the Cup Final since 2010 and their opponents on that day were Adelaide City. Fulham will be seeking to reverse their fortunes from their last cup final encounter, which Adelaide City dominated, cruising to success with a 5-2 win.
Adelaide City have been strong in the Women’s Premier Division for a number of years, having won numerous League and Cup Titles. One of their biggest hurdles to winning more silverware was dispatched in the Semi-Finals, with the defeat of arch rivals, Metro United. The club has not won the Women’s Premier Division Cup since 2011 and will be eager to claim the silverware.
This final is set to be a scintillating contest with Adelaide City having the edge on Fulham United having won two out of their three league encounters this season, with there only being a solitary goal deciding the first two meetings. In a first the final will be held as a night fixture, providing consistency for the league and players who compete every Friday evening.
